Question: What word comes to mind when you hear the term "discount health plan?"

Scam?

Rip-off?

Too good to be true?

I've also heard these words applied to discount health and discount dental plans. So about 18 months ago I set out to prove—or disprove—some of the negative chatter about discount health plans.

The result?

This website.

After researching more than 50 companies selling discount health plans I concluded that indeed there were companies out there that were not delivering on their promises, and given the chance, would probably try to rip you off.

But I also found that the majority of the companies I studied were reputable ones (even though only one had the plan that met all my criteria for what a discount plan should look like).

I also reveal some of the tactics some companies use to get at some of your hard-earned money. That's so you'll be on guard in your search for the best plan.

But actually, you really won't have to do much searching if you're looking for the best discount health plan. Just keep reading and I'll tell you what I found at the end of this article. You'll also learn some facts you probably didn't know about discount health plans as well as discount dental plans.

The way I see it…
If you don't have health or dental insurance and you have to pay out-of-pocket for your needs, why not get a discount health plan and save 30% to 50% off you bill? Why pay $788 for a root canal if you can get one for $350?
