Here are a few dental care tips that will help you maintain a healthier smile, a healthier lifestyle and avoid a host of dental problems.

Brush, Brush, and Brush Again Again
For the best dental care, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Make sure your toothpaste contains fluoride, which has been shown to help prevent tooth decay. Brushing your teeth stimulates the gums, promotes healthy teeth and helps prevent gum disease. If you can’t brush after every meal, rinse with water or mouthwash.

Visit That Dentist!
Regular visits to the dentist for dental treatment, professional cleanings and oral exams help prevent gum disease and promote healthy teeth. You should visit your dentist once or twice a year.

Starve That Sweet Tooth
Stay away from sugar every chance you get. Sugar forms a dangerous acid that attacks the teeth and feed on bacteria that causes plaque, leads to tooth decay. Experts say you should take at least a 3-hour break between eating foods that contain sugar. And don't eat sweets between meals.

Adjust That Calcium Intake
As you’ve probably heard from early childhood, calcium is essential for strong bones. And since teeth are bones that are denser than the bones in the rest of your body, it's especially important that you get enough calcium.

Health care professionals say calcium also helps prevent tooth decay. You may or may not be getting enough calcium in your diet. Most people don’t.

You can find calcium supplements in your local grocery or drug store. But make sure you do some research to find out which calcium is best suited for you. Sufficient calcium intake is said to help prevent serious oral problems, including loose teeth and unexpected tooth loss.
